This may seem a little facetious at first, but if you are between jobs at the
moment and would like to something different for a couple of months, this
might be worth looking into.

This announcement just appeared on the Ecological Society of America's
listserver:

Mountain Plover Technician and Crew Leader Positions

The Mountain Plover (Charadrius montanus) is a species of conservation
concern and is currently being considered for listing as a threatened
species under the Endangered Species Act. Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory
(RMBO) will be working with private landowners and managers throughout
eastern Colorado to assist with conservation efforts of this grassland
species. In an effort to reduce nest disturbance and/or destruction,
technicians will locate and mark Mountain Plover nests on private lands
throughout eastern Colorado to help landowners avoid nests during routine
spring agricultural activities. A random set of marked sites will be
re-surveyed to determine the success of the project.

A Mountain Plover Technician will be hired to survey and mark nests on
cultivated agricultural land in northeast Colorado from April 14 through
June 13, which is the nesting season for Mountain Plover. Pay is $1,750 per
month for two months; a rental car is provided and gas is paid for by the
project. Most lodging (camping) is pre-arranged at State Wildlife Areas and
other public and private lands.

An opportunity may exist for the technician who has additional experience in
project coordination, and report writing to be hired as crew leader for this
project. The crew leader position pay is $2000/month from April 14 through
July 31. Mileage for field work will be reimbursed.

For both positions, applicants with an agricultural or wildlife background,
especially experience in wildlife surveying techniques and/or nest
monitoring, are encouraged to apply. Experience in map reading,
orienteering, and using GPS units are highly desirable.
