If it worked once, then quit, as you said, it could likely be a gateway
failure. If the gateway goes down, and gets marked that way, it will
stay until you tell it otherwise. Use...

If the gateway is down, go back in nettool through the same commands but
use the 'gateup' command to reinstate the gateway.
