we too had the same glorious thought once upon a time....to back up our big
3000s over the network. it took about a week of testing to prove that it
ain't ever gonna work....at least like how we had envisioned it.
the problem, imo, is not who's software you use -- rather it's that at best
your mpe box is only/ever going to talk at 100mbits (100base-t). if you have
a small system...say less than 20gb (or maybe 50...) and have the luxury of
say 8-10 hours of 'unavailability' -- then sure go ahead 8-]
the real problem is the lack of gigabit connectivity...and that's why it was
on the most recent sib. granted, it was a shot in the dark...but it might
have gotten hp's attention. - d
