I was just reviewing my notes on Orbit Backup and doing a full restore
including ";DIRECTORY". I was also talking to Orbit technical support
regarding issues with store-to-disc when the ";DIRECTORY" thing came up. I
need to correct some of what I said below.

The most recent version(s) of Orbit Backup/iX write the accounting structure
directory BOTH to the front of the tape in NMSTORE format and within the
Orbit Backup store when you use the ";DIRECTORY" option.

By default Orbit will not do a RESTORE ;DIRECTORY of the directory that is
inside the Orbit store unless you specifically set a JCW to override it. For
certain reasons involving ";DIRECTORY;LOCAL" Orbit prefers the account
structure directory to be restored from the NMSTORE formatted one.

However, if you wish to restore the accounting structure and file system
directory from the one within ORBIT, you may do so by setting a JCW. They
require the JCW so you know for sure you are restoring the directory within
Orbit rather than the NMSTORE one.

There are certain caveats about doing this, so I am not sure I want to send
the JCW to the entire list. I think anyone reading this post in general
should talk to Orbit to get the JCW name along with the full instructions,
cautions, etc. If someone needs this information and for some reason does
not want to contact Orbit, email me off list.

IIRC...

An Orbit STORE with the ";DIRECTORY" option now stores the directory
information at the beginning of the tape in standard HP store format. Along
with the files required to run the rest of an Orbit RESTORE. This allows the
building of the directories before Orbit Backup/iX is on the system.

The usual method for a full system reload from an Orbit Backup/iX tape is.

From MPE (standard MPE RESTORE). (If you just did an SLT install this must
be from MANAGER.SYS).
:FILE T;DEV=DTAPE
:RESTORE *T;@[log in to unmask]@;DIRECTORY;SHOW;OLDDATE

Then one gets everything else with an Orbit RESTORE.
RUN BACKUPPL.PUB.ORBIT
>RESTORE *T;@[log in to unmask]@;SHOW;OLDDATE

Or actually if this is a full system restore it is usually suggested one
restore the SYS account first then the rest.
RUN BACKUPPL.PUB.ORBIT
>RESTORE *T;@[log in to unmask];SHOW;OLDDATE
>RESTORE *T;@[log in to unmask]@ [log in to unmask]@.SYS;SHOW;OLDDATE

Orbit doesn't like the restore option 'directory' anymore. Any help
appreciated.
