Is it possible (and if so, how) for the shell, when launched, to determine
the screen format (display rows and columns) for REFLECTION and QCTERM
emulations and set the shell environment variables accordingly?
More and more we are using non-24x80 screen sizes (24x132, 36x80, 36x132,
36x160, 48x132, 48x160 most frequently) and "man" and other software don't
know the screen size so the output formatting is incorrect.
I tried setting values in the /etc/profile.local file, but that only
reduced the unhappy users to 90%. Then I tried individual profile files,
but that didn't make people happy because they use one screen size for one
task, and another screen size for another. Geesh!
If there is a script that can see what the current screen format is and
which can be put at the end of the /etc/profile.local file, that would be
great.
Thanks,
John
