UTC full time tenure-track faculty are invited to apply for the UTC
Teaching, Learning and Technology Faculty Fellows Program for the 2003-04
academic year.

The project is funded by the UC Foundation, Academic Affairs, UTC Center of
Excellence for Computer Applications and UTC Walker Teaching Resource
Center.

The goal of the Faculty Fellows Program is to develop faculty experts on
the scholarship of teaching, including a variety of teaching, learning and
technology issues. Faculty selected for the program serve as models to
other UTC faculty on the use of effective teaching and learning strategies
and also provide limited support in the CECA Computer Curricular
Integration Lab (CCI Lab) and the Walker Teaching Resource Center.

Scholarship of teaching is defined as research into and a study of
teaching, an investigation into questions related to student learning, the
"conditions under which it occurs, what it looks like, and how to deepen
it" (Hutchings & Shulman, 1999), These investigations are done with the
idea that faculty will improve teaching and learning in their own classroom
and also improve teaching and learning within their discipline field or
content area. (See http://www.aahebulletin.com/public/archive/dec99f2.asp
for more information.)

The program is designed to help selected faculty to:
--Broaden research skills into the area of scholarship of teaching,
--Develop skills in instructional and curriculum design,
--Prepare and facilitate seminars for the UTC campus on issues and topics
related to the scholarship of teaching, learning, and technology,
--Develop skills with software tools to design meaningful integration of
technology into the classroom,
--Provide support for activities in the CECA CCI Lab and the Walker
Teaching Resource Center, and
--Serve as visible and exemplary models of teaching and technology
integration in the curriculum.

Each Faculty Fellow selected will receive extra compensation for
participation in a summer Faculty Fellows Institute and one course release
time either Fall 2003 or Spring 2004. Faculty will also receive funding up
to $3,000 for a new hardware and software.

Application instructions and materials are online at
http://www.utc.edu/Teaching-Resource-Center/Fellows/

The Faculty Fellows Summer Institute is scheduled for the week of July 28 -
August 1, 2003, (9:00 am - 4:00 pm). Faculty selected as Fellows are
required to attend the Institute.

Applications are due to the Walker Teaching Resource Center (Mail Code
4354, 401 Hunter Hall) by May 28, 2003 at 5:00 pm.
