I read that article and dismissed it as being irrelevant.  Equating Nasser and his actions with Saddam and his actions is not possible.  Kristof easily forgets that Saddam gassed thousands of civilians, invaded Kuwait and before forcibly being removed from Kuwait his armies engaged in widespread looting, killing, rape and pillaging.  The Gulf War ended with a cease-fire agreement to which he never adhered. Saddam is in violation of 17 Chapter 7 UN resolutions.

All Nasser did was nationalize the Suez canal.  Countries the world over and throughout history have nationalized assets.
