I don't typically participate in OT threads, however, this topic of Peace
Marchers as well as the anti-War movement in the UN is disheartening. Why
hasn't this same energy and activism been targeted against Saddam in an
effort to get him to allow full inspections and better yet, disarm.

For an interesting view on the marches, see the following link. It's not the
marchers, but the funders, that deserve the attention....

... Actually one of the reasons the Socialists support Iraq (witness
the large leftist pro-Saddam demonstrations this weekend,) ...
<snip>

What a blinkered, red-necked, miopic view!!

The HUGE peace-marches throughout the world were NOT leftist
pro-Saddam.
They were a cross-section of communities, right and left wing, old and
young,
singles, couples, families, blue-collar workers standing next to office
workers;
the common ground was to show that they did not want a pre-emptive
strike
against Iraq, they wanted peace.

The march in my home city, Melbourne, was the largest since the
Vietnam
War. Over 100,000 people marched against war, out of a population of
something like 3 or 4 million. The people I saw & spoke to were not all
leftists,
or pro-Saddam. They were a cross-section of Melbourne citizens.

The Australian leaders don't get it. The British leaders don't get it.
The US
leaders don't get it. And so many of the US people don't get it.

WE DON'T WANT A WAR. Give peace a chance.

Invading Iraq will not solve the problem of Islamic terrorists - it
will just
give them fuel for their hate and create an endlessly escalating cycle
of
retaliation.

Understand their view. Acknowledge the differences. Stop meddling in
the
internal affairs of other countries. And maybe then we can have peace.

Greg.
