A few days ago an old version of DBGeneral (Version 7.0.30) began to abort
with the following error:
:RUN DBGENRL.PUB.BRADMARK
**** PROGRAM ERROR #1 :INTEGER OVERFLOW
ABORT: DBGENRL.PUB.BRADMARK
NM SYS a.00ab44a0 dbg_abort_trace+$24
CM SYS % 230.404 SWITCH'TO'NM'+%4 SUSER1
CM PROG % 30.10175 INTDT1+%33 FTN'AUX
Program terminated in an error state. (CIERR 976)
:
Now, I know that it is an old version and the best way to resolve it would
be to get the latest version. Unfortunately we cannot do that since we are
not on support, any more (We had to change DBMS utilities some years back
to get JUMBO dataset support).
A couple of applications, however, still use the capacity management option
provided by DBGeneral and are hesitant to switch. While I've been able to
'patch' the run module and 'bypass' the error I'm a bit uncomfortable with
that approach.
There is also a concern as to why this error occurred now. We are one of
those sites that have 'homesteaded' at MPE/iX 6.0 PP2 and no new patches
have been installed to the system for almost one year. The utility does
run every week and started 'misbehaving' just a couple of days ago.
I'm hoping that if someone from Bradmark is monitoring this list, he could
shed some light in to this sudden behavior of DBGeneral (perhaps some
expiration code is buried into the utility?).
Regards
Paul Christidis
