Actually, the easiest way to prevent the attack is, in fact,
patching
your SQL server. The patch that closes this vulnerability came out
in
July 2002.
Hmm...given that most attacks seem to go against Microsoft software
and that Microsoft does such a wonderful job quality checking their software
- wouldn't the easiest thing be to stop using Microsoft software? Okay,

ZoneAlarm is very good. Everyone surfing the Net should be using it,
or something similar.
For those of you using Linksys firewall/routers at home, Linksys and
Zonealarm have an agreement that puts Zonealarm at the router level.
