What are people's experiences with the "footprint" of MPE 7.0 or 7.5 versus
6.0?

1. Does 7.x consume more CPU for system overhead? If so - any guesses as to
what percentage more?
2. Does 7.x use more memory?

Question is being asked in the context of my continuing saga to upgrade our
old 928RX. The 928 runs 24/7 mission critical applications. It is currently
running pretty much at full capacity. Any extra load would probably push it
"over the knee" on performance. The applications would probably die a
not-so-slow death.

The 928 is currently running on 6.0 PP2. If I upgrade to a current box, I am
forced to go to MPE 7.5

20 years experience has taught me it is really stupid to make two major
changes at the same time. If I upgrade just the operating system and
something goes wrong, I know the new OS caused the problem. If I upgrade
just the hardware and a problem occurs, I know the hardware change caused
the problem. Either way, I know better where to go for answers and the
back-out or recovery path is clearer.

But if I change both OS version and hardware at the same time I do not know
where a new problem came from. I do not know where to go for answers to fix
it. Many changes may have occurred at once so backing out of the entire
change may be very difficult.

So, I would like to upgrade the 928 to 7.5 first. Wait for it to stabilize.
Then upgrade to the new hardware. But if 7.x consumes more system resources,
upgrading to it on the 928 would be a severe problem. It might kill the
whole system. But a new A or N class can not run on anything except 7.5. So
I can not upgrade the hardware first. And around and around we go....
