Hello everyone.

The finishing touches have just been placed on a small exhibition in the
Fine Arts Center lobby titled "The Art of Humor: Cartoons by Richard
Rice".  I believe many of you will recognize that name; Richard Rice is
our own UTC Professor of History, currently teaching a class about
cartoon history.  After a 20 year hiatus, Richard made the decision in
2002 to return to cartooning, an endeavor he so enjoyed as a youngster.
Our lobby case contains a few examples from Richard's past and a large
selection of recent quips of the pen, several of which have been or will
soon be published in selected periodicals.
The exhibition will be remain in the lobby until Feb. 20, 2003.
However, a portion of the exhibition will change.  Jan 15 - 26 will
feature cartoons based on themes from "Academe"; from Jan. 27 - Feb. 9,
"Relationships" will be humorously analyzed by Richard's pen; and from
Feb. 10 - Feb. 20 his exhibited cartoons will deal with "Animals".
So be sure to visit the FAC lobby often during the next two months.  The
space does make a marvelously warm short cut for traveling to and from
the Faculty Club.

You might also stop by the Cress Gallery where "The 8th Annual
Department of Art Student Exhibition" will be on display until Jan.
