Wirt writes:
"I've lived in two worlds for most of my adult life. One is this one, where
libertarian values (trade protectionist, anti-immigration, slightly racist,
etc. views) are considered "moderate" stances."
I have generally avoided reading, much less commenting on, the off topic
posts here; but the second sentence above does deserve some response.
I can not imagine where Wirt came up with his definition of "libertarian",
but it certainly bears no resemblence to any current definition I am aware
of. Indeed I know quite a few libertarians (am basically libertarian
myself) and have read much of that written by libertarians, and I would say
that no libertarian I know of shares any of those values - quite the
opposite. Libertarians are: opposed to trade protection, generally in
favor of immigration (some/many? in favor of unlimited immigration), and
most decidedly, not racist. Perhaps Wirt meant to type libertine; he would
have been closer to the truth.
