Once a mild mannered IT professional, Michael Capellas is now President ,
CEO and Chairman of WorldCom. Or is he?

Rumors have emerged that a leading investor has made it known that he wants
Rudy Giuliani to be WorldCom's Chairman of the Board. David Maitlin and
Giuliani have started a fund to accumulate at least 33% of the WorldCom
stock. Control of that amount of stock would allow them to appoint the
Chairman. Maitlin is trying to get the bankruptcy court to agree to his plan
that would make Giuliani WorldCom's chairman. Maitlin, perhaps the largest
WorldCom creditor, is not a member of the creditor's committee that chose
Capellas. This may be the reason for the move against the committee's
decision, not any lack in of confidence in Capellas.

So once again Michael Capellas may find that he is not in control of his
fate or his company. Capellas did such a good job while he was rising
through the ranks at Compaq that he rose to the top. Apparently he liked the
view from that position. At HP he was no longer lead dog so he left. He
turned down a job at M$ because he would not be lead dog. Now he finds
himself in a position where he may be looking up Rudy's tail. He may just
have to quit again.

Poor Mike, however will he feed his family?

The opinions expressed herein are my own and not necessarily those of my
employer.
