I was going to comment/suggest that since you (currently) control both sides
of the protocol, impose a "rule" that says in effect, "no files beginning
with the letter "X" will be downloaded".  You have your program that creates
the file as "Xasdf..." that renames it to simply "asdf..." when done, however
Ken's final suggestion:

(i.e., use group-level separation as your "don't download..." rule) is far
better.  If for some "screwy" reason you need to maintain the "group"
information on the target system (i.e., potentially all groups within a given
account are "watched") I'm reasonably certain you could devise a group name
that should be "ignored" (or if not, do the rename across accounts -- I'm
also reasonably certain your "client" isn't looking to download-and-purge
from the fileset @[log in to unmask]@ )

FWIW, "virtually" is one of my favorite "marketing words" -- I've seen this
used "virtually" everywhere for "virtually" everything, and every time I see
it, I replace "virtually" with it's meaning ("not really") and re-reading it:
