 I wasn't going to comment, but whenever I hear this argument against gun
control:

I always have the same reaction. If the world is awash in guns (it is), then
it's about
time we got started getting rid of them. If we do nothing, then nothing will
change.
There is a story (can't recall who at the moment) about a gentleman wanting
a tree
planted ... possibly to replace another tree. The gardner protested, saying
it would
take 50 years for the tree to grow to the required size. The gentleman's
response?
"Well, then you'd better get it planted today."

The argument that it can't be done is no argument, just an excuse to do
nothing.
