By default the network believes you will only have 1 network card per
network.  If you have more than one it gets confused about where you
want traffic to be sent.  By having different subnets the system treated
your cards as on separate networks, even though they may have been
connected to the same wire.
So, if you want to keep both cards active you'll need to ask your NA
group to give you another subnet to put your second card on.  This could
be the same subnet as you put your DTC's on, although you would want to
change their addresses again.

I have 2 network cards on a 979.
The original config was 204.29.160.7 (lan2) on one
and 172.16.17.220 (lan1) on the other.  The DTCs
are 204.29.160.216 and 204.29.160.217.  Gateway is
204.29.160.1 mask 255.255.255.0.

The NA is setting up a firewall with all internal
addresses except web servers.

I changed 204.29.160.7 to 172.16.17.196.
The DTCs to 172.16.17.194 and 172.16.17.195.
The default gateway to 172.16.0.1 mask 255.255.0.0.

When I validate Nextport I get the error:
Searching for subsystem validation routine VALIDATENETXPOR
---> VALIDATION OF NETXPORT SUBSYSTEM STARTED  <---
*** VALIDATE ERROR --> PATHNAME : NETXPORT.NI.LAN2
DUPLICATE NETWORK PARTS OF IP ADDRESSES DETECTED (VALERR 119)
---> VALIDATION OF NETXPORT SUBSYSTEM FINISHED <---

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
