Hi Ben,

Lots of good answers already - but if you have to install Samba from
scratch - and if you have another server on the network: NT, Windows
2000, Linux etc. - you may find it a convenient choice to use ftp.

I suppose the users generate a batchjob to extract and format the data.
It is fairly easy to add some ftp-dialogue accessing a ftp-service on a
Windows-server and deliver the data there.

Probably the users have access to a few logical drives there already -
and if not this is easy to handle - and it will be easy for them to
import the data into Excel.

Using Samba on the e3000 is really OK, but when it comes to diskspace
the scarce bytes are cheaper to acquire on a Windows server in most
cases.

And if you really need lots of cheap space, setup a Linux-box with ftp.

We're reconstructing our report-setup these days. As the user requests
a report, he/she will be given the choice to select 1) Delivery to a
printer on the network 2) A report-file placed on a ftp-server 3) A
report mailed to the user 4) The report as a .pdf document on a ftp-
server or finally 5) A mailed .pdf-report.

But of course an ODBC-solution will be great also - especially if you
have your data organized in such a way that is it not too complex for
the user to understand the structure and the relationships (Data
Warehousing). With your e3000 you should have the ODBCLINK/SE product
imbedded - enabling the users to grab data from the databases right
into Excel.

It's all a question of preferences - there are numerous ways to
accomplish this.

/With kind regards Hans
(Hans-Ole Kaae)
