I was about to ask for the definition of 'last'. Last in a LISTF alphanumeric
order of name, or what?

But now it's solved. Are you going to share?

I'd count the files, build a file n records smaller, LISTF the filenames into
it, and then feed each line to PURGE.
But maybe it's not that definition of 'last' :-(
