Not much of an "attack" for all the hype. More like a foolish stunt. It seems they used ICMP echo. It might have been done to call attention to the fact that the once-distributed internet is now more like a bus than a network, and vulnerable to real disruption. Or by some nefarious organization as a probe in preparation for an actual attack. Or an accident. Or a broken router.
