I was able to generate traps - though not exactly the trap numbers I wanted
to. The SNMPTRAP program on the 3000 seems to add it's own level of
"hierarchy" to the trap OIDs before tacking on the specific number you want
to send. In any case though, here's an example command file I wrote that we
did use to send traps to our HP OpenView Network Node Manager system, which
was able to recognize the trap and execute a script based on it.
parm spectrap="50000",msg="",gtrap="1.3.6.1.4.1.3000"
setvar _ts "!HPDATEF !HPTIMEF"
snmptrap.net.sys trapdest.domain.org public 0 hp3000nodename 6 !spectrap 0 &
".!gtrap.0.!spectrap" OCTETSTRING "'!msg'"
Notes:
* Change "trapdest.domain.org" to the target system you want the SNMP trap
sent to.
* Change "public" to whatever SNMP community string you use
* Change "hp3000nodename" to the name of your originating HP3000 system
HTH,
Chris Bartram

Subject: [HP3000-L] SNMP newbie question
Does anyone have experience in using SNMP to send traps to a Unix machine.
How to configure it, knowing the Object-Id ? How can I *build* the SNMPTRAP
command ? How to send text with the trap ?
SNMP newbie ? I confirm...
