Well, it's very simple.  First you ignore the New Yuck Times.  Next you get
real news without the liberal interpretation:

Yes, Enron profited from the energy shortage in California.  Yes, they made
illegal profits and I hope they all roast in hell.  But Gray-out Duffus is
still the one who helped create the situation and he is still the one who
signed the long-term contracts at these inflated prices.  With such prices,
all the electricity-generating companies in other states are only happy to
sell to California.  They also expanded their generating capacities, outside
of California.

BTW, electricity was deregulated here in Texas several months ago.  Prices
went down some and the various companies are competing for your business.
