Check to see if there is a "motd" file on the linux system ["motd" =
"message of the day", the Linux equivalent of a "welcome" message] -- also
files such as "readme" may be automatically sent as text upon entering a
given directory.  Basically, these will be generating output that the HP is
not expecting -- I think I've seen/heard references to such "hanging" the
hp-->linux connection...

Also, I recall reading something about how this file (if it exists) is
terminated [cr only vs. cr & lf]  I may be confusing this with Samba,
however.  (or "the other way around" -- "welcome" messages on a 3000 can
hang up PC-based FTP clients in some cases...)

These are red herrings and should be avoided -- JINETD is used if you want
the HP to be the ftp SERVER, not the client, and "services.net" simply
defines the "default" port for any client not smart enough to be
user-configurable... :)
