At my employer we have a whole new approach to this problem. For nine
years the company has been working on migrating from the HP 3000 (at a
fantastic cost). As each application has been migrated it has been
determined by the IS dept. that history records are no longer needed. This
is despite the fact that the departments continue to log on to the HP to
look up history even as they use the new client/server programs.

The HP staff is now down to only myself. The others have left or been let
go. Heaven forbid I have a car crash or something as the staff that are no
longer here don't have the warmest feelings towards the company.

So our solution here is to outsource everything from the HP, drop the
history as we go and tomorrow will never come!
