Hear, hear! I wondered if that is what anyone else heard when the Keynote
was delivered.

How important is a user's group to a company like HP? It is interesting to
reflect on how much things have changed at HP since I first became involved
with their computer products in 1979. Regardless of their statements that
might seem to indicate a different direction, by their actions HP seems to
aspire to be a commodity consumer products maker. Loss of significant
differientation and a serious lack of leadership is software products would
seem to indicate that they want to be the largest low cost gadget maker. It
is not entirely clear to me what the value of a users group is to such a
firm. If the primary sources of software for their customers are Microsoft,
Oracle, Linux, etc. What is the function of a users group going forward?
Secondly, why would such a user's group be percieved as valuable to HP?

Although Art may only be kidding, it is my understanding that Interex uses
the phrase "HP World" at the pleasure of HP; HP is the actual trademark
holder for the phrase, not Interex. It is my further understanding that
Interex has been concerned that HP might jerk the usage of the phrase if
Interex disagrees with HP's dictates too much.

In support of that contention, I just went to the http://www.uspto.gov site
and recovered the following:
