Dear Colleagues:

The annual Greater Chattanooga Area United Way Campaign is underway, and we
at UTC
are being asked to consider anew our participation in this important
community effort.
United Way supports over one hundred programs and services provided by
forty-one partner
agencies which serve the needs of citizens in a three-state/sixteen-county
region.
Your contribution directly benefits our campus colleagues as 178 faculty
and staff members' families were served last year by United Way agencies,
utilizing
$140,000 in services. As you know, because of its scope and the magnitude
of its positive impact,
the United Way Campaign is the only external community philanthropic
campaign for which all
faculty and staff are contacted.

This year's campaign co-chairs include our executive team Richard Brown,
John Friedl,
Richard MacDougall, Margaret Kelley, and Steve Sloan. ERC and Exempt Staff
Council Chairs
Julia Cronin and Debra Anderson provide additional team leadership
support. I encourage you to contact
them or Mary Scott, campaign coordinator (extension 4393), should you have
questions about our
campus campaign. The head of your department or his/her designee will be
serving as a group
captain in the distribution and collection of pledge cards and other
information about United Way.

The University community values its long-time partnership with the United
Way. The UTC faculty,
staff and students have supported the United Way generously in previous
years and our goal for this
year is to raise $88,000. I believe that united we can accomplish that
goal. Please consider your
support of this noble cause and give with your heart to the United Way this
year. By contributing to
this non-profit organization, you have a unique chance not only to assist
individuals in changing their
lives, but also to help build a better community for all of us.

Bill
