Dr. John Tucker, Associate Professor in Biological and Environmental
Sciences, has received $19,398 from the Environmental
Protection Agency for his project entitled, “Chattanooga Creek Hazardous
Substance Monitoring Program.”

Dr. Tucker and his staff will collect soil and water samples from the
Chattanooga Creek Superfund site, an area that historically has presented
multiple environmental issues. The staff will analyze these samples to
determine whetherhazardous materials arepresent in the creek floodplain.

In this project Dr. Tucker and his staff will help the community determine
whether the Chattanooga Creek is safe enough for the development of a
Greenway. Dr. Tucker’s project will serve as a model for other communities
with safety concerns about Superfund cleaned areas.

Best wishes to Dr. Tucker and his staff for success in this project.
