A couple of people have emailed me about a posting I made to
comp.sys.hp.mpe (subsequently echoed to 3000-L), which said:

> Before HP would let us announce plans to phase out the hp e3000 and
> the MPE/iX operating system, we had to make sure that there would be
> hardware available with enough processing power to carry customers
> through the next five years.
>
> That's why we introduced the a-class and n-class last year, and why
> we are introducing performance "kickers" to those systems now.

Some people have interpreted my posting to mean that HP had decided
to discontinue the hp e3000 when we introduced the A-class and N-class
in February of 2001. This is not true.

If I've confused anybody, I apologize. Actually, the final decision
was not made until after HPWorld of 2001.
