On this cop camaro vs. John Q, camaro debate: Look, I owned one of the '92 B4C camaros for years. A friend and coworker had the 91. B4C is a police package, sure, but all that means is a bunch of options that anyone could order from the factory. What made the B4C different in 1991 or 1992? Externally, the car was the R/S model - not so fancy, no fake hood scoop, and no spoiler. Anyone ever tells you that their Camaro with spoiler or Z-28 badging is a B4C, either they are fibbing or the car has been altered. Under the skin, however, it was a Z-28 with juicy options. B4C was the only way to get the big Australian (metric!) brakes plus air conditioning in the same Camaro. You also got suspension enhancements that were available to anyone. Price. I have the original invoice, and cops only paid about $3200 new. Chevy got a lot of good PR out of the deal. Computer - no governor - all others had pre-set top speeds based on a safety factor derived from the tires and suspension hardware that came on the car from the dealer. It is rumored that the B4C also had different ignition and fuel curves than the smog-legal variety, but mine never failed an emissions test. The motor was the same as a Z-28. In 92 and 91 that did not mean LS1 or even aluminum heads. Two popular gear-head magazines tested the 91 - one acheived 159mph, the other, 160. Both touted this Camaro as very superior to the Cop Mustang - most notably because the short-wheelbase 'Stang was very unstable at persuit speeds (swapped ends). CHiPs had to receive special training to drive the Mustang. BTW - the B4C was ultra-stable at high speed. Did I say three? #4 - if you bought one from the cops, it proably had spot lights. In Colorado, that could actually reduce your top speed because traffic in front of you tended to slow down. -dtd
