Dr. Dorothy Williams, Associate Professor and Coordinator for the Social Work
program, has received $7,492 from Hamilton County for the Primary Colors
program. This program seeks to prevent juvenile delinquency in
at-risk children in Hamilton County by providing support services to
children and their families.

Primary Colors forms a coalition among UTC’s Social Work department, Parents
Are First Teachers (PAFT) program of Hamilton County Social Services, Orchard
Knob Elementary School, Fortwood Mental Health Center and several other
community-based organizations and agencies that seek to aid in early
intervention among at-risk populations.

Primary Colors combines Parents as Teachers (PAT) curriculum, “Born to Learn”,
which enhances the children’s ability to learn, and PAFT, which creates
strong beliefs about healthy behaviors and the value of education, to
increase opportunities for parents and children to bond so that children
achieve success
in school and society. In addition, PAFT offers parents the opportunity to
develop parenting skills, use those skills, and be recognized for their
achievements.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Williams on her work with this worthy
program.
