The Challenger Center in the College of Education and Applied
Professional Studies has received $218,545 from the U.S. Department
of Education for the fourth year of the Upward Bound Math and
Science: Promoting Resolve in Math and Science (PRISM). With
Ms. Twyler Boykin as director, PRISM focuses on improving the
academic skills of 50 high school students each year from
socioeconomically depressed areas of Chattanooga.

PRISM forms a partnership between UTC, the Hamilton County school system,
parents, and several community organizations to serve these students’
academic needs. The program offers students support services to improve
their reading, math, and science skills. Students receive tutoring and
academic counseling services and participate in space science simulation
activities at the Challenger Center.

PRISM demonstrates UTC’s commitment to helping intelligent and capable
students transcend their environment and achieve success in college.
Congratulations to Twyler Boykin for directing this successful program!
