I'm not so sure about this, Denys.  IBM has managed to keep the AS400
thriving despite a HUGE network of "non-authorized" or "black
market"resellers, and I'm sure they have had to face these same issues.

This reminds me a little bit of my years working for one of the automobile
manufacturers...some hated used car dealers because they didn't think that
anyone should to be able to buy a used car.  If only they could force
everyone to buy new.....wouldn't that be nice for them.  But how
unrealistic for a number of reasons.
