There was probably a better way to do this, but, on a crash and burn box, I
wanted to replace the second hard drive. I (perhaps mistakenly) decided to
simply reinstall Linux after. Problem is, booting from the install disk,
Linux sees enough of itself left on the old drive to try to boot, all the
way to a kernel panic.
In order to dig this hole even deeper, I booted from a Windows boot disk,
fdisked, issued fdisk /mbr, and format /s. Linux still sees itself. Now, it
occurs to me that perhaps swapping these two drives, making the replacement
drive the first drive, might do it. Or not.
1) how can I reinstall Linux in this situation?
2) what should I have done to begin with instead?
