It sounds like your printer has an HPIB (IEEE-488) interface. If that's the
case, it won't work with a typical parallel interface, even with a cable
that fits it. MPE/iX stopped supporting HPIB as of 6.5. There has never
been a JetDirect box for HPIB.

Subject: HP293x parallel cable
I am looking for a couple of the "special" cables required for hooking up
a 293x printer with a parallel interface. The parallel interface card
in the 293x printers doesn't have the "standard" parallel connector.
Instead it has a large "D" connector (36 pin???) that expects a special
"patch cord" to connect to the parallel cable going to the computer
(or Jet Direct box).
Does anyone have any of these, or know what the pin out for them is?
