Yes.  This allowed 32 bit addressing on the 16 bit machine.

Later the guy that implemented the series 64? COBOL microcode was thinking
about implementing the APL firmware, I'm not sure he finished it or not?

(I don't think they put this in CM mode on MPE/iX.  :-)
