In the past many of us have utilised scripts sent from our applications
to invoke File transfer functions from the HP3000 to the users PC. Many
of these were written when the only method to do so was to utilise the
facilities provided by products such as Reflection from WRQ. Now with
native FTP available on the HP3000 there are other inexpensive or free
ways of achieving the same thing. With the announced EOL for the HP3000
many of us are looking at our applications afresh to assess their
migration potential to other platforms. GUI or Browser Interfaces will
remove the need for Terminal Emulators, therefore applications that
currently utilise features of the emulator for things like file transfer
are going to need modification.

In response to several requests we have prepared a document that
describes how to set this up, and includes a sample program and source
code, and links to where various components can be downloaded. The
sample utilises the freeware WAR-FTPD from www.jgaa.com but any industry
standard FTP Server for your Client PC's should be sufficient.

Changes like this can be done to applications whilst they are still
running on the HP3000 and whilst it is still using Terminal Emulation.
In fact making changes now, may not only make potential migration
easier, but may also allow you to leverage the use of more inexpensive
or free HP700/92 Terminal Emulation products such as QCTerm or
ScreenJet.
