I've been doing this since the late 80's with both toner and ink cartridges.
Of course HP will blow a lot of smoke in the air threatening a warranty will
be voided if you do this but I say the first cartridge will outlast their 90

Ah but in our wonderful world where everything is patented, you cannot
legally do this.  Thus HP has a monopoly on HP-compatible ink cartridges
enforced by our government.

This also stops anyone from INVENTing a much higher capacity cartridge.
FYI: HP has ceased manufacturing ink cartridges for some older printers -
guess what this does to the users of these printers?
