This thread started on the premise:

>> HP is shipping new printers with half-sized toner [ink] cartridges

Interestingly enough, the price of a "new" printer is only marginally
greater than the cost of a refill, so it does sound like a viable option to
simply "buy a new printer when the old one runs out of ink". What I think
you'll find, however, is that the cartridges SHIPPED with the printer are
indeed "half-sized", while the REFILL cartridges contain the full amount of
ink for the tank.

Seems people realized the cost was "so close" that the "thing to do" would
be to buy a printer, switch the "new" tanks in the printer with the "nearly
used up" ink from the old printer, then return it for a refund.

Places like Fry's has gotten wise to this practice and nearly all of their
printers have a sticker on them saying that IF the ink cartridge seals are
broken, then the cost of a FULL replacement cartridge is deducted from the
return [never mind the fact the cartridge you buy with the printer is
half-sized to begin with...]

I'm just wondering how long it will be before BIC comes out with a printer
for which there are no refills -- just like their pens and shavers, use it
till it runs out, then throw it away/buy a new one...

[you buy them in 3-packs so you can keep a couple "on the shelf"]
