I've been doing this since the late 80's with both toner and ink cartridges.
Of course HP will blow a lot of smoke in the air threatening a warranty will
be voided if you do this but I say the first cartridge will outlast their 90

Also, consider benchmarking results of total time for ftp versus compress -
ftp - decompress. You didn't say anything about the network between them.
But another factor is that you would be sending less data across your
network, which can be a good thing for other users or processes.
