Interestingly enough, we have our 2564B printer on a contract with that
company that HP just acquired.  So, depending on which part of which
company makes it into the new HP, such printers might return to support.

I'd keep the 256x printers.  They are good solid machines.  If HP won't
support them, buy a few spares and skip the support.  They are cheap now
and
likely to get cheaper in the future.  For somewhere between $500 and
$2000
you could have quite a few spare printers of various models sitting at
your
location and ready to go into service.  There is no way that you could
replace 256x printers with equivalent equipment for that kind of money.
