On 6.0 PP2 we recently have found a case where the dynamic recon fig with
NMMGR / IOCONFIG did not work for a printer device. The Ldev had previously
been configured as a different type of printer. We tried modifying both the
class and device. We tried completely deleting all class and device
configurations for it and re-adding. The spooler was off and no one was
accessing the. No matter what we did, the old configurations appeared to
stay in effect when we restarted the spooler.

Doing a START NORECOVERY solved the problem

Moral: It appears this dynamic configuration thing does not always work. At
least not in 6.0 PP2.

You can't do the change while something has a hold of a port. So if the
spooler is active for the port you need to do a stopspool before doing
the dynamic reconfig. After the reconfiguration it will automatically do
a startspool, if you have done a headoff in the past that will be lost
and you will need to do it again.

Hope that makes some sense,
-Lane
