Hi Nancy!
This may work for you....
if jinfo('#j!JOB_NUM', 'exist')
echo Job #j!job_num running
do stuff you want to do
else
echo No such job as #j!job_num
endif
This could also be called from a COBOL program as well....

Anybody know of an Intrinsic that could be called to determine if a
particular job is running or not?
Other suggestions for similar functionality are welcome.
Thanks
