I'm looking into COBOL to be used on AIX, migrating from MPE.

I am frustrated that most solutions are not a compiler and some libraries,
they are these "development environments" which, frankly, I have no
interest in. The DEs are expensive to buy, require run-time environment and
licensing, and are just really overkill.

On the other hand, the migration consultants aren't hyping COBOL conversion
to open source COBOLs or a simple compiled COBOL.

What are listmembers' thoughts? Who's using what COBOL on AIX?

thanks,

Dave Darnell
