It may interest you and others to know that Tandem was founded by the core
designers and developers of MPE who left HP at the end of 1974.  I would
therefore expect that NonStop would have been a well designed product with
some elements of MPE philosophy embedded in it.  I have never looked at
NonStop in detail, but knowing the individuals involved gives me respect
for their work.
