Dr. Deborah Arfken, Dr. Stephanie Bellar, and Dr. David Edwards
have worked together to secure a two-year, $90,000 grant for UTC from the
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

These funds will be used to implement the 2002-04 Community Development
Work-Study Program (CDWSP). This program helps economically disadvantaged
and minority students in the Master of Public Administration Program
prepare for careers in community and economic development.

The grant will provide stipends, tuition, and fees for three UTC
students enrolled in the Master of Public Administration program.
These students will participate in paid internships in community/economic
development organizations in the Chattanooga area, attend graduate
seminars, and travel to professional conferences.

This is the eighth year in which UTC has been successful in this
grant program, despite increasily challenging competition. In the past,
92% of the CDWSP recipients have received offers of employment by
graduation.

Congratulations to Dr. Arfken, Dr. Bellar, and Dr. Edwards on their award.
Please join in commending them for their efforts to enhance educational
opportunities for students at UTC.
