Here is the full messaage from Ms. Sasse at Allied Arts. Why our system
chooses to delete sections of messages is over my head.

Slight correction:

The Fantaskticks was not a Broadway production. It opened and remained
off-Broadway for its entire run, setting the record for longest running
musical on Manhatten, though not officially Broadway.

I may be mistaken, but I think Cats holds the specifically-Broadway
distinction of longest running musical. If I had time to do the research, I
might tell you about the actual circumference of the flying tire that
whisks off an elderly cat to heaven as she sings "Memories." However, I am
sure it is different from country to country, or is it just a question of
what guage we use to measure it?

The delightful musical, "The Fantasticks," which still holds the record
(at least I think it does) for the most performances of a musical
production on Broadway, is on the bill this week at the Oak Street Playhouse.

"The Fantasticks" contains one of the most haunting songs in musicals-"Try
to Remember". Several of Chattanooga's favorite musical performers are
featured in this classic tale of boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets
girl back.

By the way, this past Friday evening, the theatre where Oak Street performs
was named in memory of Flo Summitt, who was instrumental in creating and
sustaining Oak Street for more than 20 years. It's a fitting tribute to a
great lady.

Summer officially starts this Friday--at least in Chattanooga anyway--when
Nightfall kicks off its concert season with Graham Parker and the Figgs
rocking the Miller Plaza stage. The Downtown Partnership has lined up a
great series, with blues, rock, folk, zydeco, Celtic, and lots more musical
styles. Whatever the genre, the performers are always terrific and Miller
Plaza is the place to be on Friday evenings.

We're still tweaking some things on the site, so let us know what you like
and don't like about it.

There are many more arts events this week, which you can find on our

information on times, locations, and purchasing tickets for these and other
events.
