At a former workplace I hated Tuesdays. I was the Sys-admin/operator and
had to separate 1-1/2 boxes of green bar every Tuesday morning and
distribute the reports. One week I decided to keep all the reports and wait
for the calls. I got 2. Next I started deferring the reports that no-one
claimed. Over the course of 2 months I had 4 inquiries about those reports.
I started archiving these reports and showed the end users how to retrieve
what they needed when they needed it. By doing this I reduced that weekly
print process to 3 short reports and my time involved in separating and
delivering them to 5 minutes.
Some users would text in the spoolfile and copy/paste the info they needed
into a spreadsheet. Originally they were getting the hardcopy and typing
the numbers into a spreadsheet. What a waste of paper and time. So this
cost saving could also be added into the above process.
What fond memories (ugh) :(

A few years ago where we had a lot of month-end central printing, one of my
chores as a consultant was to help the operations guys develop a report
distribution list (Excel file). We had a specific distribution location of
"Unknown" which the guys were working on eliminating by eliminating the
jobstreams that created the reports inthe first place.
Re: GYOP - there are a couple of problems with this - The "where's my
printout? What did YOU do with it?" and the how long to keep the unclaimed
paper problem.
In general, I like the idea though. Especially with distributed printers so
people cannot finger point.
