if you define a variable this large the size of the program file will be
increased by the variable size.

I would suggest to write a subprogram ('not dynamic' ) and define the
large variable in the linkage section of it.


for the second question :

you can use file equation or ' inputfilename  using ws-file-name'

where ws-file-name is defined in the working storage section.
