Re DVDs, <http://www.supermarionation.net/news.html> tells us that:

'there have been rumblings that... Fireball XL5 may see the light of day
in America at the beginning of 2003'

The tapes certainly exist, and have been available as VHS videos in both
the UK (where the programmes were made) and the USA in the past few
years, though Amazon does not list them now.

The wonders of digitization will quite probably cause the wires to
vanish, and so the puppets, despite still being controlled by unseen
string-pullers in the background, will appear to be operating
independently.

That sounds terribly familiar, but I can't think why......
