Mike,
If you're into free software and have time to putter, you might consider
http://cygwin.com/xfree/. I've installed it and got it running, but haven't
puttered much. It's a little bizzare using a cygwin unix emulation layer,
but it's the same popular XFree86 server most Linux distributions use.
They're even porting KDE to it...(I'm not holding my breath ;-) )

Subject: Semi-OT: PC XWindows Servers/Emulators Under MS Windows?
Sorry for the cross-post, but I only wanted to type all of this once.
:-)
We're victims of HP's "e3000 Eradication Project", and as part of that,
we're
getting our first 9000 installed today to run in parallel with our
e3000. As
a result, I'd like to use some of the HP-UX system utilities under their
X
personae instead of in character mode on my PC running Win98.
I know about Hummingbird's Exceed and Reflection/X, but my company is
frugal
(spelled "R-E-A-L-L-Y D-U-R-N-E-D C-H-E-A-P") so I'd love to find a low-
or
no-cost X package that will run under Windows 98 and up.
Yes, I know Linux or one of the BSD distributions have the X stuff
included,
but I can't reconfigure the OS running on over 100 PC's just to make my
life a
little easier. :-)
Does anyone have any pointers to an PC X package for anything less than
around
US$400-$500?
TIA,
Mike Reaser
